# Introduction

When it comes to holidays like Labor Day, if you don't want to make calls on the holiday itself, you would need to set up a rule exception. A rule exception will allow you to make the calls that would otherwise be made on that day on another day. For example, if you don't want to call patients for their Tuesday appointment on Labor Day, but rather on the Friday before, you can set up a rule exception to tell Inphonite to handle that for you automatically.

This article discusses how to create and configure rule exceptions.

# More Information

With rule exceptions, there is no need to change your rule or other settings in any way whatsoever, before or after the holiday.

Here's how you would create an exception:

1. In Inphonite, go to *Rules* > *Upcoming Rule Exceptions*.
2. Click *New Exception* on the toolbar at the top.
3. On the form, type a name for the e*xception* at the top. This should be something like "Labor Day", "Christmas Eve" or "Day after Thanksgiving".
4. In the *Exception Type*, you would normally always choose "Add Days". This tells Inphonite to make the calls that would normally be made on that day on a different day.
5. The *Effective Date* would be the day of the holiday.
6. The *Days to Add *field asks you when you want to make those calls. For example, if you didn't want to make the calls on Labor Day, you could set the field to "3 Days Earlier" and the calls would be made on the Friday before Labor Day.
7. Finally, at the bottom all of your active rules should be displayed. Check off the one's to apply the exception to. (Normally this would be all of them.)

When creating your exception, you'll notice that you can only select a single day. So, for holidays like Thanksgiving when you may be closed more than one day, you would need to individually add exceptions for each day you do not wish to make calls.

Also, you can add as many exceptions as you desire. If you wish, you can add your holidays for the next several years in advance, and Inphonite will know how to handle calls that would be made on those days.
